The price of a legal translation is ultimately a matter of free negotiation and agreement. I will however do my best to meet the expectations and wishes of my customers and to find a suitable solution acceptable to both sides. The complete satisfaction of my customers is always my highest priority.
Translations are processed by me as quickly as possible and are normally completed on schedule. However, it must be emphasised that the translation of legal documentation is a highly individual service and is affected by various factors, for example the technical difficulty of the text, the urgency of the assignment and the time required for the work to be done well. In other words, the service involved is a tailor-made one. To be borne in mind, too, is that, available artificial intelligence systems are unable (so far) to capture with sufficient precision the infinitely various nuances of meaning of each and every legal document; without properly interpreted documents, there can be no solid guarantee that a text has been correctly translated. Since the quality of the final product is decisive, the price agreed must take into account all these aspects. Thus, it is a precondition for an exact calculation of price that a text to be translated must generally be produced to me beforehand for my inspection.
My fee is normally charged as a lump sum or at an hourly rate. Calculation on a line basis (not below EUR 2,-- per translated line) is only possible for very simple texts or in cases where remuneration is fixed by statute. At present, my hourly rate is EUR 100,-- net. However, there can be a significant variation in price depending on the matter involved, in particular for complex or urgent assignments or in the case of translation work which has to be carried out at weekends, during holidays or within 24 hours. For larger assignments, remuneration on a lump sum basis is possible.
The minimum value of instructions is EUR 100,-- net. It is a precondition for my acceptance of instructions that there is prior agreement on the price or the fee (lump sum, hourly rate or line basis, as the case may be). The price or, as appropriate, the fee agreed is due for payment on the customer´s receipt of my invoice.
Before customers send texts to me or transmit them to me electronically, customers are asked to contact me initially by telephone to check my availability. My preliminary perusal of documents for translation is always carried out by me without obligation. I can first decide thereafter whether I can accept the assignment.
Documents containing confidential information will be treated by me as such and will not be passed on to third parties by me without the consent of the customer.
Translations remain my intellectual property and are only intended for the person/firm instructing me. Copyright in the original text is unaffected.
